COMPANY

Mr. Sponge Waterproofing, Inc. has its origins in a family-owned firm that was founded in Detroit Michigan in 1967. Basement Waterproofing was just one of the commercial construction activities the firm offered. In 1995, Mr. Sponge Waterproofing, Inc. was created, built on the 52 year history of the previous firm but totally focused on basement waterproofing with polyurethane injection processes.

grounded in experience. When we identify the site of water entry or determine how to inject SP-3 or other polyurethane’s, we’re basing our decisions on construction know-how.

Company

Dean Teaster founded Mr. Sponge Waterproofing, Incorporated in 1995 from his in-depth knowledge of waterproofing from a long-standing family business since 1967 in Taylor, Michigan. His early research of high-pressure injection waterproofing techniques started the development of SP-3 and the first design of the water-activated swell plug kits for tie rod leaks. That kit was originally available in 37 local southeast Michigan hardware stores. His further research gave way to their unique injection style unmatched today. These two proprietary products developed in the first stage of infancy then later re-designed with the genius of Keith Potts gives Mr. Sponge Waterproofing the unique market edge.

The history of the family’s interest in waterproofing began during World War II when Dean’s grandfather, Jack Teaster, was assigned to the Hull crews at Newport News Shipbuilding Company in Newport News, Virginia. During his time there he worked on the hull assemblies where waterproofing of superstructures was critical. Ships such as the Essex Class Carriers: Essex, Yorktown, Intrepid, Hornet, Franklin, Ticonderoga, Randolph, Boxer Midway, Leyte and Coral Sea. He then took those skills and started the first family waterproofing business in 1967 which is now today, Mr. Sponge Waterproofing, Inc.
